We started a project in early spring to revamp some street planters by Patna Park in North Stonehouse. These beds were overgrown and full of weeds and rubbish, and through the efforts of our volunteers we are slowly turning them into well maintained, cheerful planters to improve the look of the local environment for the community, as well as improving habitats for local wildlife.
These volunteer sessions also provide local people with a sense of purpose and pride, an opportunity to get to know each other and time spent outdoors, doing physical work, in contact with nature. The benefits of all of these opportunities on people’s well-being are well documented.
