Art in the Community
At Cliik Community, we believe that art has the power to transform lives and bring people together. As a Community Benefit Society, our mission is to ‘improve the quality of life for those living and working in North Stonehouse’, a vibrant neighbourhood in Plymouth. One of the key ways we engage with our community is through art.
We organise a variety of activities designed to inspire creativity and connection among residents. Our art and craft workshops at The Talk Shop encourage people of all ages to explore their artistic talents in a friendly and supportive environment. We have also hosted ‘nature-play’ creative art sessions for children in a local park, allowing them to express themselves while enjoying the beauty of nature.
In addition to these workshops, we provide space for local emerging artists to exhibit their work at The Talk Shop. We don’t just offer a venue; we actively support these artists by helping them showcase their art, publicise their events, and celebrate their exhibitions. This not only brings a diverse range of artwork directly into our community but also fosters a sense of pride and ownership among residents.
Many of the artists we support have gone on to exhibit their work in other venues, thanks to the opportunities we provide. Our exhibitions often inspire others to pick up a paintbrush and create their own masterpieces, further enriching our community’s artistic landscape.
We strongly believe in the importance of art as a medium for building empowerment and identity within a community. Our successful mural trails have made a significant positive impact on how local people view their neighbourhood, replacing ugly and offensive graffiti with vibrant and meaningful artwork. This transformation has helped make North Stonehouse feel safer, friendlier, and more welcoming for everyone.
